Save money on your energy expenses
Save money on your energy expenses
If we watch the tv we all know that it is important to reduce energy use these days. It is also financially beneficial when you consider the constant rise in energy expenses driven on by your gas central heating. Whilst you use electricity and gas throughout your household you may find that up to one 50% of your gas charge relates to your central heating system gas use. Below we have outlined some ways in which you can take easy actions two lower your present-day energy bills.
Consider where you are using gas heating systems :
Central heating radiators are made to be turned on and off. Have a look at whether there are any rooms in your home which are not being used and switch off the radiator there. Cutting the number of rooms which are actively heated will contract your energy use. Seal the room off by shutting the door and you will have in effect shrunk your home and reduced your heating costs.
turn off a fire if you are using the gas heating system :
A gas boiler is much more cost-efficient than using a fire to heat one room. The flue will mean that a lot of the heat created goes outside your home, modern central heating systems are much more cost-efficient in heating your home than using an electric fire.
Use insulation to stop draughts
As cold drafts blow into your home money flows out in the opposite direction. Doors are often places where cold air leaks in so use approved entrance door insulation. Use a foam based sealant to close off any gaps between your door frame and the window frames where these meet the exterior wall. These type of cracks happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. Whilst draughts are concealed using a candle flame can help to reveal where they are.
Put on more closing rather than turning up the heating :
Putting on a sweater will keep you warm rather than switching up the heating. You can save up to 10% on your heating costs just by cutting the thermostat by 1°.
Your curtains can help to control temperature :
The sun is very effective at heating your house in the winter, when shining, if you keep the drapes opened to allow it in. At night most of your home’s heat is lost through it’s windowpanes. Drapes can be an additional form of insulation and this time and cut heat loss if they are closed, this approach will help to save you a lot of money over many months. Thin curtains are not as effective as thick ones at stopping this heat loss.
Some tips for other parts of your heating system :
Some gas heating systems have a hot water cylinder and this must be insulated. The hot water cylinder will hold hot water you have paid for and it is craziness to allow this to cool down unused throughout the daytime.
The use of aluminium foil on the wall by your metal radiator can be used to reflect heat into the room rather than out into the wall and the street.
