When you choose your next gas boiler there are a multitude of matters you want to take into the decision. The price will be one leading influence but there are other elements, you have to take into account how much hot water you will be likely to require, the space available in your house and how economical your new gas boiler will be.

Chimney domestic back boilers
Back boilers are still seen in some families, these are are commonly obscured at the back of a chimney, when the coal fire at the front concealing the back boiler. Low internal water pressure is a problem with these back boilers and you will not be installing one of these unless it is a replacement, installation requires a lot of space and you will want to find a place to conceal this type of boiler. A replacement back boiler however could be your best choice if you currently have one.
Previously domestic back boilers had not been economic, but recently large improvements in efficiency have been made, so by substituting your old back boiler, you could make large savings on your annual heating charges.
Combination central heating boilers
The combi gas fired boiler is now the most popular type of gas boiler. They are small; fitting into cupboards, and really economical to operate. Because they heat water instantly from the mains, you do not have to wait for water to heat up – and your hot water supply will be endless.
They are more cost-efficient than other types too. The heat loss pattern is reduced as the hot water storage tank in other gas fired boiler systems is ruled out. The downside of this is that combi gas boilers sometimes struggle to supply several hot water taps concurrently.
Unvented central heating gas boilers

Open vent system central heating boilers
a vented gas boiler is the most familiar type of boiler. This type of central heating uses two water tanks, both located in the attic, this is in addition to the hot water storage cylinder in the airing cupboard and all this takes a lot of space.
Mains supply water is fed through one of attic cylinders to the hot water storage tank.
The 2nd tank is the feed and expansion tank which preserves the right level of water for your central heating system, enabling water expansion when you turn the heat on. The only restriction on hot water supply now is the capacity of the hot water cylinder which will take a while to heat up fully.
